American Legion Riders of Post 177 present 2018 medallions

On April 2, the American Legion Riders of Post 177 presented Redhorse with its 2018 medallions in recognition of a third year of support for the organization’s Run for Thunder event and American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.

“2018 was the third year that Redhorse has provided generous support for our Run to the Thunder event,” said Bruce Mersereau of American Legion Riders. “(The event) hosts American Legion Riders nationwide to take part in the Rolling Thunder demonstration to raise awareness of our POWs and MIAs so they are never forgotten.”

Redhorse’s donation sponsored a Gold Star family for the weekend event and contributed to food for riders. During the Ride to the Thunder event, donations are also raised for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship fund, providing college scholarships to children of U.S. military members who were killed while on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001, or who have a combined VA disability rating of 50 percent or greater.

Last year, Post 177 raised $10,000 toward the Scholarship Fund, half of the overall contribution from all posts in Virginia. In total, the Scholarship Fund has generated approximately $15 million since its inception.

The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. The organization is committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in the community, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to fellow servicemembers and veterans.
