Inspiring young women in STEM at MetroHacks 12-hour hackathon, Women In Code: MetroHacks W

In February, Redhorse was proud to be a Silver sponsor of MetroHacks’ Women In Code: MetroHacks W, a 12-hour hackathon devoted to bringing more female high school students into STEM fields. Redhorse Director of Data Science, Jodi Deprizio, and data scientist, Dennis Silva, attended the event to serve as coding mentors and speak with attendees about Data Science, Machine Learning and Redhorse’s Geoinformatics and Geospatial Intelligence work.

MetroHacks is the largest high school coding competition on the East Coast, organized for high school students, by high school students, and dedicated to providing opportunities for students to pursue their passion for computer science outside of the classroom. The 2019 Women’s Event, Women In Code: MetroHacks W, was MetroHacks’s first 12-hour hackathon devoted to bringing more female high school students age 13 to 18 into STEM fields. During the free event, students learned about new technology in various workshops, collaborated and created projects as teams, and competed for prizes.
